Denmark

This time, the destination was Denmark another new country added to the list. My first impressions when landing in Billund is that Denmark is filled with animals, cows, sheep and ducks are everywhere. Billund is the world capital of Lego, so you can see giant pieces of Lego on the strangest places, like a cow field. Took the train to Horsens (land of horses), were I would stay with M. a BEST hungarian friend. The first night was spent partying at an erasmus party, which was quite nice and of course cheap.
The next day, me and M. went to Odense, the third largest city in the country were we meet a common friend, Z. also from Hungary. The train system is quite nice, besides the expensive prices, but I don't mind paying for that excelent service. We arrived under typical northern rain but it was short after it was over. We took a small bike tour trough the city to the students dorms. By night, more erasmus party. It was a bit awkward return home around 4 AM and see the sun rise. It seams around there the night is really short at this time of the year, only 5 hours.
Sunday in Odense, a good day to enjoy the city. This one is filled with references to Hans Cristian Anderssen, since it was his birthplace. Statues of the author and of he's most famous characters are spread through squares and street corners. It's a city filled with charm, clam and very clean. Exactly what I would expect from the north. I thought this would be an expensive trip but in the end it costed me almost nothing, lucky to find a real low cost flight and to sleepover some friends house. In fact, this weekend costed me less than some I've spent partying in Madrid. The high prices were only noticed on the transports, if a bike could take you everywhere it would be wonderful.

Santander

The return trip took me from Germany to Santander, always looking for the cheapest option. The city is the capital of the Cantábria, a northern Spain region, between the Basc Country and the Astúrias. Small, but very interesting. It was a sunny day and already many where the ones enjoying it at the beach, what an envy. The bay by the city is marvelous, one of the most beautiful in all of Europe according the locals, but the composition of the bay and the snowy mountains does make a beautiful postcard.
Getting to Madrid, I had the chance to try a new way of transport in Spain, now the regional train, which is bad. Not for the speed or delays, but for the comfort, the seats are really stiff and hard, quite painful for a 7h trip, although the view throughout the trip is marvelous.

Darmstadt

From Barcelona the trip head towards Germany. For the first time I would stay a couple of days in this country. The arrival at Frankfurt is itself impressing, the airport is huge has is the main train station, a world over rails, it's possible to get anywhere in the world from this city. But my destination was a bit closer, Darmstadt, where some friends are living. Arriving there and I get the first interaction with the german culture, drink beer and eat pretzels. It's all right, but 0,5L glasses take a lot of liquid, and after a few of this weiss beer you'll get really full.
The first of May, we took the train to a nearby village, there we would go up the mountain and take a walk, drink some wines in the middle of the countryside and eat some local specialties. This is the usual thing in Germany, long walks trough the countryside on sundays and holidays. Back to Darmstadt, I went to visit the city symbol, a huge tower that surprised me for surviving the war, it's in a place called Mathildenhöhe that was an art center on the beginnings of the XX century. Germany visit was short but good.

Barcelona

5 months later, another trip to Barcelona. Take an 8 hour bus, is something I had already promised never to repeat again, but although it was hard it was also the cheapest way. Arriving at Barcelona, and the first surprise, A. was coming to pick me up in her scooter, so i had to carry my huge camping backpack and try not to fall down, very scary. Without the backpack, riding the scooter is really the way to cross the city, it's fast and easy to park. The night was spent in the company of BEST friends, we got together for some drinks and nightclubbing. The next day showed the colors of the city. It's magnificent, filled with life, very similar and yet quite distant from Madrid. I went to visit Casa Batló, it has a spectacular front, Antoni Gaudí was a real artist and visionaire. Will have to return again so I can visit the other famous Gaudí house, La Pedrera. Together with A., we went to the beach for some afternoon rest and siesta. Sunday is football day, so we arrived at the F.C. Barcelona Camp Nou with lots of people, if I hadn't somewhat forgotten about this, maybe we could've bought some tickets in advance and watch the match, nevertheless I got a scarf to support the team the next time i'll be there. The old part of town has it's own mystic, very cute and interesting. By nightfall i wanted to see La Font Magic, the famous fountain, that last time i visited was closed for cleaning, this time was no different, and there was no lights show on sundays. There are still a lot of places to visit in Barcelona, the next trip is already scheduled.

San Sebastián

Beautiful village by the Cantabric Sea. The streets are filled with interesting structures, buildings, churches, squares, fountains, bridges. You can be amazed at every corner. The sunset from the Castle is simply amazing, a view over the "la Concha" beach bay and the small island is simply breath taking. Have the right company while doing it and it is certainly a trip to remember.
The nearby villages are also nice, Getaria offers a very diverse gastronomy and cultural history, while Zarautz enables you to surf some of the best Cantabric waves. In general this part of the Basc Country is in it's all, a confluence of culture, nature and mysticism.

The gates of Europe

I would say that Europe starts in Portugal and ends in Russia, but it seams that the old continent doors are located in Madrid. In this huge avenue that is Paseo de la Castellana, I look towards the East and cross this European gates.
